[art #227]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The Jaguar XJ220 (1992), shown here in striking metallic blue, was a
technological marvel and the fastest production car in the world upon
its release. Powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6, the XJ220
produced a staggering 542bhp, propelling it to a top speed of 217mph.
Originally conceived with a V12 engine, the shift to a V6 allowed for
better weight distribution and more efficient performance, yet it
remained controversial among purists.
Its sleek, low-slung bodywork was designed for maximum aerodynamic
efficiency, and the metallic blue paint only enhances its futuristic
lines. With its scissor-like doors and dramatic stance, the XJ220 looks
as fast standing still as it does at full speed. Although its production
was limited and it faced some criticism, the XJ220 has since become a
highly sought-after classic, representing the pinnacle of Jaguar's
engineering in the early 1990s.
