[art #264]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The Ford Mustang (1965), especially in this red roadster form, is an
American icon and the original pony car that kicked off a new era in
automotive design. With its long hood, short deck, and aggressive
stance, the Mustang was an instant hit, and the convertible version
added an extra layer of desirability for those who craved open-air
driving. Under the hood, the Mustang could be fitted with a range of
engines, from a 200-cubic inch inline-six, to a fire-breathing 289-cubic
inch V8 that produced up to 271bhp, providing drivers with plenty of
muscle to back up its looks.
Ford marketed the Mustang as a customisable car for the masses, and
buyers could outfit their Mustangs with a wide array of options, from
automatic transmissions to sporty upgrades. The red paintwork of this
convertible accentuates the car's bold, attention-grabbing design which
of course includes the iconic galloping horse emblem in the grille. The chrome
trim, and the elegant lines made it a symbol of 1960s
American cool and its appeal has transcended generations.
