"Ford Capri Mk1" (1972)
The Ford Capri Mk1, this one a 2.0-litre, was marketed as "the car you
always promised yourself", and it became an instant hit, particularly in
Europe. Ford planned the Capri to follow the Mustang's success in America
with its sporty styling in a compact affordable package. The
Capri was available with a range of engines, from the modest 1.3-litre
four-cylinder units to the powerful 3.0-litre V6 giving it a broad
appeal.
The Capri's fastback styling, long bonnet, and short tail end give it a
musclecar look while the lightweight chassis ensured it handled
well on twisty roads. With its sleek sporty lines it became a favourite among driving enthusiasts who
appreciated its sharp handling and classic design. The Capri was also a
successful racing car competing in touring car championships across
Europe and earning a reputation as a true driver's car.
