[art #263o]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The Fiat X1/9 (1972), particularly striking in orange, was a
revolutionary sports car designed by Bertone for Fiat. Introduced in the
early 1970s, the X1/9 was notable for its mid-engine layout, which was a
rarity for affordable cars at the time. Powered by a 1.3-litre
inline-four engine producing around 75bhp, the X1/9 wasn't built for raw
speed, but rather for agility and balance. Its lightweight construction
and near-perfect weight distribution made it a joy to drive, especially
on twisty roads, where its handling truly shined.
With its Targa-style removable roof, the X1/9 gave drivers a blend of
open-top motoring and coupe-style rigidity. The car's wedge-shaped
profile, flip-up headlights, and compact dimensions made it an
unmistakable presence on the road. It was a sports car for the masses,
offering Italian style and precision handling at a relatively affordable
price. Though modest in power, the X1/9 became a cult favourite for
enthusiasts who appreciated its unique blend of styling and driving
dynamics.
The orange paint emphasises its exciting and playful design, standing
out as a vibrant representation of the era's daring automotive trends.
